Exploring Dental Tool Improvements

Hi, it's Mia Armonde here to talk to you about family dentistry. As my small family grew into a large one, I found myself at the dental office on a regular basis. Every six months, the kids would go into the dentist for a cleaning or repairs to their teeth. During that time, I took an interest in the various ways the dental tools were evolving. Tools used in the dental industry have grown in leaps and bounds in the last few decades. For example, my kids went from hearing the dental drill to wearing headphones that completely canceled out the sound. Each time we go back into the dentist, I take a close look at the improvements that have arisen since the last visit. The results are astounding. I will cover my findings on this site, so you can also enjoy the improvements to dental tools and techniques.

How To Easily Maintain White And Healthy-Looking Teeth As You Age

Dentist Blog

If you're like most people who care about taking care of their teeth, you are likely facing stains and imperfections that seem to continue developing as you age, no matter how often you brush and floss. Here are a few things you can do to easily maintain a white and healthy smile as time goes on:

Be Mindful of Your Food and Drink Choices

One of the easiest ways to maintain a healthy and white smile is to be mindful of the foods and drinks you decide to indulge in throughout any given day. For instance if you have a daily coffee habit, you may battle some stains as time goes on. Things like tea, berries, pomegranates, and even red wine can cause staining and dull your smile overall.

It's important to be mindful of the foods and drinks you consume so you can care for your teeth accordingly. Enjoy a cup of coffee or wine with a straw, and drink a full glass of water afterward to rinse your teeth off and hydrate your gums. Make sure that you brush your teeth after enjoying berries so the juice doesn't stain your teeth and the seeds don't get stuck between them. And whenever possible, choose options that won't stain your teeth over those that will. Perhaps you'd enjoy pineapple chunks or white grapes over raspberries.

Invest in Cosmetic Dentistry

Having your teeth professionally whitened at a cosmetic dentistry office like Parklane Dental on a regular basis is an effective way to maintain a bright smile throughout the year without having to spend a lot of time treating your teeth at home. Forget about doing chores or sleeping with whitening trays in your mouth. A professional whitening session can be completed in just one afternoon, and the results should last for several months before a new treatment is needed.

If your teeth are chipped, slightly crooked, or seriously stained, you can have them treated with composite bonding. This treatment process involves molding composite resin over your imperfect teeth to create a straight and smooth structure that results in a white and healthy-looking smile. Composite bonding can't fix issues like overbites, but the treatment is ideal if you're dealing with minor cosmetic inconsistencies.

Your cosmetic dentist can work with you to create a customized treatment plan that addresses all of your teeth problems and eliminates your cosmetic concerns.

Make Homemade Whitening Treatments

An easy way to keep your teeth healthy and white between professional dentist visits by making and utilizing your own homemade whitening treatments. At breakfast time, whip up a quick teeth-whitening strawberry smoothie that will keep you full until lunch. You'll need:

  • 2 bananas

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries

  • ½ cup yogurt of choice

  • 1 tbsp of nuts of choice (for protein—or use a serving of protein powder)

  • 1 cup ice cubes

  • 1 cup water

Throw everything in your blender and mix on high until well combined. Pour the smoothie into a large glass and enjoy! The strawberries in the smoothie contain lots of vitamin C, which will help clear plaque off your teeth, and they also contain an effective astringent that will help remove surface stains before they can darken.

You can also make and use your own whitening toothpaste once or twice a week. Just gather the following ingredients to make a batch for the whole family:

  • 1 tbsp baking soda

  • 1 fresh strawberry

  • 1 tbsp water

  • 5 drops cinnamon essential oil

  • 5 drops peppermint or spearmint essential oil

Put the strawberry in a small, resealable container and mash it with a fork until it becomes watery and mushy. Add the rest of the ingredients and thoroughly mix until a paste is created. Dip your toothbrush into the toothpaste and brush like you normally would. The essential oils in this recipe will help the strawberry whiten your teeth while freshening your breath for the day.
